Frequently Asked

questions

Have questions? We have answers! Below are some of the most common questions we get about Sparks Behavioral Services, our methods, and what to expect.

  • What is Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), and how does it work?

ABA is a science-based approach to understanding behavior—why it happens and how it can change. We use ABA to teach new skills, reduce harmful or interfering behaviors, and help individuals achieve meaningful goals by making small, positive changes in their everyday environment.

  • Who can benefit from your services?

Anyone looking to build independence, improve behavior, or learn new skills can benefit from ABA. We support individuals with autism, developmental disabilities, and mental health needs—ranging from young children to adults.

  • Do you accept insurance or Medicaid funding?

Yes. We work with various funding sources, including Medicaid and partnerships with Michigan Community Mental Health organizations. Our team can help guide you through the funding and referral process.

  • What ages do you serve?

We serve people across the lifespan—from early childhood to older adulthood. Whether it's building communication in toddlers or supporting independence in adults, our services are tailored to each person’s needs.

  • How do I get started with an assessment or services?

Getting started is easy. Just contact us through our website or by phone, and our team will guide you through the intake process, funding verification, and scheduling an initial assessment.

  • Where do services take place—home, school, clinic, or community?

Our services are flexible and offered in a variety of settings, including homes, schools, day programs, community locations, and our BCBA-owned group home. We meet individuals where they are to support meaningful progress in real-life environments.

  • What makes Sparks different from other ABA providers?

We’re committed to person-centered care grounded in dignity, choice, and real-world outcomes. Sparks is BCBA-led at every level, and we combine clinical excellence with a deep respect for the people we serve—across all settings and life stages.

  • How do you ensure the rights and dignity of individuals receiving services?

We believe every person has the right to be treated with respect, make choices, and participate in their care. Our team actively seeks assent, includes individuals and families in planning, and avoids unnecessary restrictions—always prioritizing safety and dignity.

  • Do you offer support for adults or only for children?

Yes—we proudly serve both children and adults. Sparks Behavioral Services operates Michigan’s only BCBA-owned and operated group home and provides ABA-based support to adults in residential, day program, and community settings.

  • What training do your staff receive, and how are they supervised?

All Sparks team members receive ongoing training in ABA principles, ethics, and person-centered support. Our staff are supervised by Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) to ensure high-quality, effective, and compassionate care.
